Cardiff, April 2011 - TWO Cardiff University graduates are harnessing the power of social media to give students and graduates a free and easy way to find the job of their dreams.
Alex Kavel and Neil Smith, both 26, with degrees in computer science, created Graduly, a Facebook app that uses a brand new set of tools, to match final-year students and post-graduates with job vacancies they may not have found using traditional methods.
"Through the app, the graduate can enter their education details, skills, experience, the sector they are hoping to work in, and the role they are searching for," said Graduly director Alex, a Cardiff resident who has experience working in both website development and recruitment.
The Graduly search technique is unique among job sites – the 'exact match' takes out the ambiguity in the process. The input and search terms are standardised, so candidates, potential employers and recruiters are all working to the same set of criteria".
"Most agencies looking for graduates target bigger companies, which can often leave smaller businesses (which account for 98% of all businesses in the UK) out in the cold. Graduly uses Facebook - the meeting place of choice for 90% of UK students - providing SMEs with an easy, but truly effective way to find the graduate they need. “We have designed Graduly to leverage Web 2.0 technologies using a Facebook app. This gives a much more intuitive feel than traditional job-boards, and the end result is a far more accurate matching up of candidates with vacancies ," said Alex.
Alex and fellow director Neil see the simplicity of the app as the key to filling job vacancies, and believe Graduly will be particularly useful to SME owners unable to use the bigger, more traditional job boards because of the prohibitively expensive costs involved.
Graduly is also innovating a new business model in the recruitment industry. Businesses and recruiters will be able to use "iTunes-style" vouchers to download details of candidates they are interested in. There are no long-term contracts, just a pay-as-you-go system that can be used when required.
"My experience in recruitment has shown me how time-consuming and difficult it is to find graduates with the right set of skills, so that both the candidate and the employer have the best possible result " Alex said. “ The Graduly system is a game-changer for students, graduates and recruiters".
Graduly is linking with Universities to provide a backup service direct to students. Seminars highlighting pitfalls with potential employers, giving an honest appraisal of the job market, and demonstrating interview techniques will be all part of the service, and provide opportunities to create winning CVs using the Graduly system.

The Graduly search technique is unique among job sites - the 'exact match' removes ambiguity in the process with input and search terms standardised, which means that candidates, potential employers and recruiters are all working to the same set of criteria. We provide SME's with a new route to the graduate they need, easily and cost effectively.
