Suit Amnesty

Cardiff, May 2012 - A CARDIFF business is urging people to donate suits they no longer need to a charity that helps disadvantaged and homeless jobseekers into work.

Penarth Road-based Graduly has joined ‘Suit Amnesty’. The idea is to re-gift outgrown and unused suits to disadvantaged and homeless jobseekers, helping them into work.

Any suits that are collected by Graduly during May will be given to The Wallich, a charity which has been operating across Wales for 30 years to provide accommodation and support services for homeless people.

Alex Kavel, director of Graduly - which has developed a Facebook app to match university leavers with job vacancies they may not have found using traditional methods - mainly in the SME sector – said the company is in a perfect position to support Suit Amnesty.

"There must be thousands of unwanted suits gathering dust in wardrobes all over Cardiff, but equally people who have fallen on hard times, looking for work, and without the funds to buy a suit to wear for interview and to work." He said.

He adds, "Everyone knows how much presentation counts when going for a job interview, and not owning a suit can be a significant barrier when looking for work. The Suit Amnesty ensures clothing that is no longer needed can be put to good use and help people take their first step, or indeed get back onto the career ladder."

Derith Rhisiart, Fundraising Co-ordinator for The Wallich says, "The suits would be a welcome boost for some of our clients, allowing them to go to an interview with some dignity and pride, as well as helping them to increase their chances of success for the future".

Anyone wanting to donate a suit can before the deadline of June 1 can drop them into Graduly at Office 3, 65 Penarth Road, Cardiff, CF10 5DL between 8.30am and 6pm, Thursday and Friday.

About Graduly

Graduly is an app using a brand new set of tools to match university leavers with job vacancies they may not have found using traditional methods. Graduates uses the app to enter their education details, skills, experience, the sector they are hoping to work in and the role they are searching for.

The Graduly search technique is unique among job sites - the 'exact match' removes ambiguity in the process with input and search terms standardised, which means that candidates, potential employers and recruiters are all working to the same set of criteria. We provide SME's with a new route to the graduate they need, easily and cost effectively.
